Computer Phone Service Online
What is VoIP?

VoIP is an acronym for
Voice over Internet Protocol
or in more common terms...
phone service over the Internet.

With computer technology advancing in all areas, phone service thru your computer is becoming very popular, as well as economical. It must be noted that VoIP service is for phone dial-up modems or DSL connections; however there are now some companies that offer limited phone functions with cable connections.

There are two types of service. You can get online notification of incoming calls with a caller ID window that lets you decide whether you want to take the call or let it go to voice mail. With this type service you never have to worry about missing important or emergency phone calls. The online notification function requires call-waiting service.

You also have the option of getting full phone service which allows you to make and receive calls online. Now you can even get internet faxes.
Some people use VoIP in addition to their traditional phone service, or replace home phones all together since VoIP service providers usually offer lower rates than traditional phone companies.

VoIP service comes with all the same "extras" that you get with your phone company: unlisted phone numbers, call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID, conference calling, etc.
